Clouds in Hyper-Stereo
[June
17th, 2003] Normally clouds are so far away we don't perceive their depth directly
because our eyes are only inches apart, not nearly far enough to provide significantly
different perspectives. Other visual clues such as motion and lighting tell
us the shape and relative position of layers of clouds.
The two photographs that make up each of the following 3d photos were taken hundreds of feet apart instead of inches apart. I was surprised by the results. The 3d photos revealed bizarre landscapes that can only be seen with the help of this method of photography, called “hyper-stereo”. Clouds in 3d
Yucatan
Peninsula, MEXICO
[June 6, 2003] Today you'll be spending some time on the eastern coast of the
Yucatan Peninsula. There you can find luxury resorts (XPU-HA)
along the Caribbean Sea coast, ruins of ancient cities from the period of Mayan
splendor (Chichen-Itza, Coba),
and the island of Cozumel where some of the most
beautiful coral reefs in the world are hiding beneath the turquoise waters.
All you need for your journey are your red/cyan 3d glasses*. I will make pictures available as I finish processing them. Click one of the selections on the map to see the 3d photos.
*You may have two types of glasses, one pair with a red/dark blue and one pair with red/cyan (light blue-green). The light blue-green glasses work best for most pictures. Red always goes over your left eye.
[June 8, 2003] Photos are now available at Small, Medium, and Large resolutions. Just click S, M or L on the thumbnail page. Some "Large" images don't have much more resolution than the medium size, but most are 1600x1200 or larger so scroll around to see the whole image.
[June 9, 2003] Mayan Mall images now available. See a couple Mayan artisans and their crafts. Those hammocks are really nice! I need to find space on a web server before I can upload more high resolution images. For now only Chichen-Itza is available in the Large format.
[June 9, 2003 Update] Thanks to Cyber Sprocket Labs ALL IMAGES are now available at high resolution! Enjoy!
[June 11, 2003] The XPU-HA Palace Resort used to be an ecology park. They turned it into a luxury resort, but they still have lots of animals that are either endangered or injured. We went on a couple of the ecology tours and got some 3d pictures.
This next section is focused on the resort itself, which is all outside and open-air except for two of the restaurants. XPU-HA Resort
[June 16th, 2003] These are pictures of coral reefs and other underwater objects taken at the XPU-HA resort and at the island of Cozumel. I used two underwater 35mm film cameras for these shots. Diving Photos
